 | Truck collides with Ghan train | |
 | The Ghan train & truck crash north of Adelaide
A truck driver was taken to hospital with chest injuries after his truck crashed into The Ghan passenger train north of Adelaide, and exploded.
Witnesses say the truck failed to stop for The Ghan at a private property crossing near Two Wells, about 50km north of Adelaide.
"The truck exploded in segments, it did not stop at all," witness Matthew Stewart said.
Three of the 163 passengers aboard the Ghan train suffered shock, but the rest were not injured, ambulance officer Andrew Thomas said.
They were taken by bus to Adelaide, and the truck driver, a father of three aged in his 50s from Two Wells, was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening chest injuries.
The Ghan's, Great Southern Railway chief executive Tony Braxton-Smith said police and investigators had taken control of the crash site.
"As I understand it, the damage sustained to the train is minor," said Mr Braxton-Smith.
In 2002, four people were killed and another 13 injured when The Ghan and a car and bus collided at a level crossing at Salisbury in Adelaide's north.
The Ghan was also involved in a level crossing crash with a truck in the Northern Territory last December.
The Ghan, which runs between Adelaide and Darwin, remained at the accident scene on Monday afternoon, as police continued investigations.
