SA governor Kevin Scarce sworn in
A staunch republican and former navy chief Kevin Scarce has been sworn in as South Australia's governor. Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce was officially sworn in at a ceremony at the Adelaide Festival Centre, beginning his five-year tenure as the replacement for the retiring Marjorie Jackson-Nelson.
Truck collides with Ghan train
A truck driver was taken to hospital with chest injuries after his truck crashed into The Ghan passenger train north of Adelaide, and exploded. Witnesses say the truck failed to stop for The Ghan at a private property crossing near Two Wells, about 50km north of Adelaide.
Regional boost for Adelaide Airport
Adelaide Airport is to get two new gates and a new aerobridge. Under the plan, the old international terminal will be demolished. It will create more room for regional aircraft and end long walks that regional passengers have faced. Regional Express chairman John Sharp says that when the new airport terminal opened last year there were some teething problems for his airline.
Cottam sentenced for blackmailing Holden
35-year-old Michael Edward Cottam has been given a suspended jail sentence after trying to blackmail Holden to the tune of $500,000 over false claims he was dying from asbestosis. In November, 2005, Michael Edward Cottam sent a series of emails to Holden executives alleging there was a problem with asbestos contamination at the company's Elizabeth plant in Adelaide.
Cuttlefish at risk from desalination plant
A marine biologist says BHP Billiton's proposed desalination plant in Upper Spencer Gulf could wipe out the cuttlefish population off Whyalla. The sea around Whyalla is the world's largest cuttlefish breeding zone. Adelaide University Associate Professor Bronwyn Gillanders says cuttlefish only breed once in their lifetime. She says if increased salt levels caused by the proposed plant negatively affect the cuttlefish reproductive process, the entire population could be devastated.
SA man jailed over drug-fuelled murder
An Adelaide man who has spent most of his adult life in prison will be returned to jail for almost 18 years for murdering his lover. In the South Australian Supreme Court, Justice Kevin Duggan said 46-year-old Gerald Douglas Morrison had spent all but five or six years of his adult life behind bars
