 | Gearld Morrison Jailed for Life
An Adelaide man who has spent most of his adult life in prison will be returned to jail for almost 18 years for murdering his lover.
In the South Australian Supreme Court, Justice Kevin Duggan said 46-year-old Gerald Douglas Morrison had spent all but five or six years of his adult life behind bars.
In October, 2004, Gerald Morrison stabbed to death his 58-year-old lover, Jaynee Sheridan, and wounded her friend, Gwenda Barty, in an attack fuelled by drugs.
Gerald Morrion pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but was convicted on both counts in a trial by judge alone.
Passing sentence, Justice Duggan said that despite being high on amphetamines, Gearald Morrison knew what he was doing and could have controlled his actions.
"This is just one more case that illustrates the dangers inherent in taking amphetamines," the judge said.
He sentenced Gerald Morrison to life in jail with a non-parole period of 17 years and 11 months.
