YouTube video might be a aimed at generation Y, but if young people want to have a say at this year's federal election year they must enrol to vote.
In an initiative designed to get more young people on the electoral roll, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has teamed up with youth broadcaster Triple-J and some of Australia's top performing artists.
Kicking off on Saturday in Humpty Doo, in the Northern Territory, artists including Missy Higgins, Something for Kate and Blue King Brown, will present a series of "Rock Enrol" concerts designed to spread the word.
Missy Higgins said it was important that first-time voters had a say in the political process.
"Voting is a key way of letting politicians know how you feel about issues - and you can't vote if you're not enrolled," Ms Higgins said in a statement.
"If you're over 17, get on the roll now and make sure you're ready to have your say when you turn 18."
Last year, the federal government reduced the deadline to enrol to vote.
Previously, once an election was called, people were given seven days to enrol or update details like a change of address.
Under the new laws people have three working days to enrol and re-enrolments have to be completed on the day the election is called.
Something for Kate vocalist Paul Dempsey said it was essential for young people to enrol so they did not miss out.
"You need to ensure you are prepared and get on the roll now, before you miss out altogether," Mr Dempsey said in a statement.
According to the AEC, an estimated 18 per cent of people aged between 18-25 years are not on the electoral roll.
AEC commissioner Mr Ian Campbell said it was important to encourage young people to have a voice in the election.
"'Rock Enrol' has travelled all around the country with music festivals and we are particularly excited about visiting regional areas to talk to young people about the importance of enrolling to vote," Mr Campbell said in a statement.
"Rather than let others decide your future, make sure you are enrolled to vote and be heard."
Electoral staff will attend the four "Rock Enrol" concerts to be held at Karratha WA, Burnie TAS and Innisfail, QLD, to provide enrolment forms and check enrolment details
