| Peter Foster to stand trial for fraud
Controversial businessman Peter Foster has been committed to stand trial for alleged fraud.
Peter Foster, 44, of the Gold Coast, briefly appeared for committal in Brisbane Magistrates Court on four fraud-related charges.
The first charge relates to allegations he fraudulently obtained $US234,000 ($A274,000) from the Bank of the Federated States of Micronesia.
It is also alleged he dishonestly obtained benefits on three occasions - twice in Brisbane and once at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast - totalling $399,369.
Peter Foster, who appeared in court dressed in a suit, did not enter a plea during the 30-minute hearing.
Prosecutor Liz Wilson tendered the statements of 29 witnesses who will be called during Peter Foster's trial.
She also briefly called to the witness stand Bank of the Federated States of Micronesia president and chief executive Robert De Courteney.
Mr De Courteney told the court Peter Foster had applied for and been granted a loan from the bank, but had used some of the funds for purposes not approved under the loan agreement.
Magistrate Jacqui Payne committed Peter Foster to stand trial in the Supreme Court in Brisbane at a date to be fixed.
He did not make an application for bail and will be remanded in custody until the trial.
Peter Foster was represented in court by barrister Brad Farr and solicitor Terry Fisher.

The correct spelling of Bundaburg Queensland, is Bundaberg. | | | | |
