 | People urged to turn off lights to save Barrier Reef
A central Queensland conservation group says reducing energy use can help save the Great Barrier Reef.
A recent United Nations report on climate change suggests the Great Barrier Reef is in real danger of disappearing within 20 years.
Crystal Jasperson of the Capricorn Conservation Council says the loss of the reef would have drastic consequences for sea life and wildlife, not to mention the impact on tourism.
She says we all need to pick up our game and do something about it.
"Things like turning off lights and fans when they are not in use, turning off items at the wall because even in standby mode they do use electricity, changing your lightbulbs over to the more efficient lightbulbs, that would be riding your bicycle to work as well, recycling is also another important one."
