 | Nightclub dispute flares up again | |
 | A dipsute between Tasmania's Anglican Church and a nightclub owner may be headed for the courts.
The owner of Players Sports Bar, in the grounds of St David's Cathedral in Hobart, has been told to vacate the church-owned premises within 14 days.
Owner Colin Latham says the church's lawyers have told him he is using the premises illegally as a nightclub.
However, Mr Latham, who maintains he has a 12-year lease, says the terms of his agreement allow for a nightclub, and he is not going anywhere.
Mr Latham has also questioned the money the church is using in persuing him.
"The church continually cries poor and they've asked their congregation and the taxpayers to donate money to restore their buidlings that are in need of repair and yet they've probably spent well over ten thousand dollars on this legal battle that they can't win," Mr Latham said.
The Dean of St David's Cathedral, Lindsay Stoddart says it is a simple matter of Mr Latham's lease running out on the 26th of this month.
He believes the lease runs for three years, and he is making no futher comment.
