A warning to all mobile phone users, that if you receive a message from 1999 9001, be wary when you open it because every time you do it will cost you $6.60.
My phone is always with me among dirt, grease and water and in no circumstances have I authorised this company to send me these premium messages, if you call them that.
It was only a week ago that I top up my phone account with another $30.00 credit on my phone and upon checking my credit a few days later I found I had $1.09 left. As I am the only person who has access to my phone, I knew I had not made any calls.
I decided to contact Telstra regarding this matter and was informed that the company had sent me 9 messages at a cost of $59.40.
The operator suggested I ring 1300 767306 (never heard of this company and won’t know how much this call cost me until I receive my next Telstra account) stating I had not authorised the use of my mobile phone number and to request a credit of $59.40.
He also credited my account with $20.00 “goodwill gesture”.
Upon ringing this 1300 number, In fact did not get the opportunity to request my refund or to complain, but in fact spoke to a computer generated voice asking for my mobile phone number and in 60 seconds my number would be taken of the “Premium Message List”, which I never requested to be placed on.
