 | Man falls into crocodile infested river | |
 | Northern Territory Police say it is unlikely a man who fell out of his boat near Borroloola yesterday will be found alive.
The Melbourne man was trying to untangle a net from the boat's propeller yesterday morning when he fell overboard into the Carrington River, 700 kilometres south-east of Darwin.
Marine rangers, local police and community members searched until dark last night.
The man's wife was in the boat but was unable to help because she accidentally ran the boat onto a sandbar.
Superintendent Bruce Porter says police divers will join the search today.
"At this stage we do hold very little hope of finding the person alive, however we are still conducting searches in the event that he may have survived and hopefully we will recover him," he said.
"It is going to be a tricky situation. Divers will make the appropriate assessments before commencing operations.
"The Carrington River, is a crocodile infested river."
