 | Lump Sum Payment To Go For Under 18 | |
 | Sponsored Links
The Government says mothers under 18 will soon no longer be eligible for the lump-sum four thousand dollar baby bonus.
The decision follows claims the teenage mums have either been spending the money irresponsibly, such as on plasma televisions, or have been pressured to part with it.
Sydney newspapers say from January, the young mothers will be restricted to claiming the bonus in 13 instalments over six months.
Allowing young mothers to better plan on how they spend their baby bouns, and receiving more for where the baby bonus was intended and allowing time to ajust to the added cost young parents are not fully aware off untill the bouns has already been spent, often wasted on goods not related with the new family.
Family and Community Services Minister Mal Brough's denied the shift in policy's in response to claims teenagers are falling pregnant just to receive the cash.
Of almost 269 thousand bonuses claimed last year, around 11 thousand were made to teenage mothers.
