Landcare - Coastcare
Landcare is a uniquely Australian partnership between the community, government and business to 'do something practical' about protecting and repairing our environment.
More than 4,000 volunteer community landcare groups - including bushcare and urban landcare, rivercare, coastcare and sustainable agriculture groups - are tackling land degradation in every corner of Australia.

Coastcare
Coastcare is community volunteers caring for their coast.
Coastcare volunteers identify local environmental problems and work together to achieve practical solutions.
Coastcare and landcare groups tackle problems like dune erosion, loss of native plants and animals, storm water pollution, weeds and control of human access to sensitive areas.
Coastcare groups are revegetating dunes, building boardwalks and access paths, removing weeds and fencing dunes, as well as educating visitors and locals.
The Coastcare program provides opportunities for governments, community, business and interest groups to become actively involved in on ground works to protect and manage our coastal and marine environments.

Rivercare
Rivercare groups are improving the condition of Australia's valuable water resources — including rivers, streams, wetlands and groundwater — resulting in improved water quality and environmental condition for all Australians
A key theme of the Government's Natural Heritage Trust, Rivercare is working to protect and maintain Australia's beautiful waterways for generations to come.
Many animals and plants rely on Australia's freshwater environments in rivers, streams, wetlands and floodplains. Protection of habitat is vital for the survival of species such as Galaxias fish, Macquarie Perch and the Western Swamp Tortoise.
Rivercare
Bushcare
Bushcare is activity by community-based volunteers assisted by government (often local government) and non-government organisations working to rehabilitate and
preserve bushland.
There are thousands of such groups across Australia, with volunteer members spending their ‘spare’ time doing this important work with so many benefits for both the natural environment and for the community.
The majority of work is done on public land in urban areas, with work also carried out on private land and in the urban rural fringe.

Indigenous Landcare
Indigenous Landcare is about indigenous communities using traditional indigenous values and practices through community activity. Indigenous communities are involved in care for country on indigenous lands as well as assisting the whole of Australia with knowledge about our country and its care.
The Australian Government has recognized the historic, current and potential role of indigenous communities to care for country through providing funds for 13 Australian Government Indigenous Land Management Facilitators funded by the Natural Heritage Trust. Communities have been involved in landcare projects all across the country for many years. The rest of us are just catching up!
