 | Julalikari council disappointed in Mayor
The organisation which administers Tennant Creek's town camps says it is disappointed that the Mayor spoke out about the camps before consulting them.
Mayor Rod Swanson says he wants the push to "normalise" Alice Springs town camps to be repeated in Tennant Creek.
The general manager of Julalikari Council, Pat Braham, says such a plan was mooted for Tennant Creek, but was then dropped.
She says the Mayor has not discussed any future plans with the council and that he should take into account the town's population before speaking out.
"We're looking at a population base that we've got, mainly 60 per cent of Indigenous people, and yet statements like this are being made," Ms Braham said.
"There's no inclusiveness in any of that so our council is actually saying before you make statements like this, talk to us."
She says she wants better access to services from the town council and better value for the rates Julalikari pays.
"We do the maintenance on the basic maintenance on the roads, we pay for the lighting in the town camps, yet we still pay rates to the town council," she said.
