| Cockle Creek luxury resort approved | |
| A developer hopes to start work on a multi-million dollar eco-resort in Tasmaina's far south later this year.
Plans for the Cockle Creek resort first emerged about five years ago, but the developer halted the project amid protests about potential damage to the environment and cultural heritage sites.
The developer has revised the proposal to site the main lodge on freehold land, instead of within the Southwest National Park.
But 60 cabins will be located in the national park.
The Huon Valley Council's Manager Geoff Cockerill says the council has approved the Cockle Creek project.
"A major interpretation centre is included,"" he said.
"They will also be working with and cooperating with Parks and Wildlife to do an interpretive story of the whole of the Recherche area."
A Huon Valley resident is challening the council's Cockle Creek approval in the Planning Appeals Tribunal.
