| BP Ultimate petrol withdrawn from Ballina | |
| BP Australia is no longer selling its Ultimate high-ocatane petrol in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales after fuel tampering by distributor Ballina Petroleum.
Ballina Petroleum has admitted mixing regular unleaded petrol with Ultimate fuel at 11 north coast service stations.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is investigating the company's actions.
BP Australia spokesman Chandra Vigneswaran says the company's high-octane fuel has been withdrawn from the region until its quality is assured.
"BP Ultimate won't be available from BP-branded service stations until we are confident that there are procedures in place that can guarantee the integrity of that fuel," she said.
"That doesn't currently exist, but we are looking at alternatives that will guarantee that for customers."
While BP Australia is not part of that investigation, the company's spokesman Chandra Vigneswaran says the incidents could affect the company's future in the region.
"There is a chance that BP-branded service stations may no longer be available in the area," she said.
"There is a chance that BP-branded fuel may no longer be available in the area.
"But that's not something that the company wants as an outcome and we're doing everything we can to try and maintain a positive outcome for the community."
