| Billy Elliot gets the X factor | |
| Hobart actor John Xintavelonis has been cast in the Australian production of Billy Elliot the Musical.
He is off to Sydney next week to begin rehearsals for his role as a piano playing miner, Mr Braithwaite.
John Xintavelonis has spent five months in twice weekly dance lessons practising the splits.
"I get to play piano and I get to dance a jazz ballet number", he said.
John Xintavelonis will be joined by another local actor, Colin Dean, who is in the ensemble cast.
"Colin Dean is a great singer and this is his first big major musical," John Xintavelonis said.
"He's a good friend of mine so we're going to be living together in Sydney and having a ball."
The story of Billy Elliot is set in County Durham during the 1984 miners' strike.
The score was composed by Elton John.
The Australian production opens in December.
