Beijing on track for 2008 Olympics
BEIJING With 500 days to go from Tuesday before the curtain rises on the 2008 Olympic Games, China is busy ironing out every potential blemish to the perfect staging of the world's biggest sporting event. Construction of venues, training facilities and accommodation for more than 16,000 athletes and delegation officials remains on schedule to be completed more than six months ahead of the August 8-24 Games.
China coal mine flood kills 15
A central China coal mine flood, which managers tried to cover up, killed 15 people - less than a week after 21 miners died in another unreported accident, the official Xinhua agency said. The flooding in Shangjiwu mine, in Henan province, started late on Thursday when 52 people were thought to be underground. The coal mine operators organised a rescue operation themselves instead of reporting it to work safety officials, but residents of nearby Ruzhou city told police about the disaster on Friday, Xinhua said.
Paparazzi scum sue Richards, Anderson
Two freelance Paparazzi photographers are suing Denise Richards and Pamela Anderson, and are charging Denise Richards for physically and verbally assaulting them when they tried to take her picture. They also claim Denise Richards and Pamla Anderson both lied to authorities, the media and others about the confrontation. According to the lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Denise Richards and Pamla Anderson were at the River Rock Casino Resort in British Columbia, Canada, on November 9, 2006, to work on the forthcoming film "Blonde and Blonder."
Japan Earthquake kills one
A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 has jolted the coastal area of central Japan on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring at least 40, public broadcaster NHK reports. NHK also said at least nine houses had collapsed when the quake struck Japan in the morning. The focus of the tremor was at a depth of 50km below the seabed off the Noto peninsula in Ishikawa prefecture, about 300km from Tokyo.
Harry Potter Cast to return for Harry Potter films
Harry Potter Actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will return as teen wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the final Harry Potter films, Warner Bros announced. The young Harry Potter stars will reprise their roles in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - the last two films in the franchise based on J.K. Rowling's best-selling novels, said Jeff Robinov, the studio's president of production
