Funding announced for Desalination Plant to meet water supply needs of rapidly developing Agnes Water - 1770.
Miriam Vale Shire Council has placed a high priority on providing solutions to limited water supplies in the shire.
The announcement this week by Local Government and Planning Minister Andrew Fraser of $18 million funding to assist in the provision of solutions was welcomed by Miriam Vale Shire Council.
The funds will enable projects identified in Miriam Vale Shire’s water & sewerage master plan including a much needed water desalination plan for Agnes Water – 1770.
Miriam Vale Shire Mayor, Tom Jeffery said on Wednesday that, “The announcement of funding for the project will mean a huge boost for the area. Without this water supply solution, the progression of Agnes Water - 1770 would have been significantly hindered which would have serious consequences for development, tourism, employment and lifestyle for Agnes Water - 1770 residents.”
“A number of solutions were given significant consideration to meet the needs of a growing community in the Agnes Water – 1770 area. The consequences of each solution in terms of environmental impact and financial viability were explored extensively. Water Desalination was the best solution in this case. This is not a matter that Council has taken lightly.” said Mayor Tom Jeffery.
“A water desalination plant meets the needs of the community and offers the best practical solution to the problems of limited water supply that we have been struggling with as a community in the Agnes Water - 1770 area for a substantial period of time. We are frilled with the news."
