Lady Musgrave Island, is certainly one of the most beautiful coral cays and lagoons of the Great Barrier Reef. Its colourful underwater world is a haven for snorkelling and scuba divers. Even for those not so familiar with the aquatic environment, a trip with our glass bottom boat to the island itself is an unforgettable experience.
Lady Musgrave Island is located just 52m north of Bundaberg, and is the second southern most island on the Great Barrier Reef. With The Spirit of 1770 you can cruise in sheer comfort aboard our new purpose built 22 meter Catamaran which provides an excellent ride in aircraft style seating on the main deck and upper decks. Our vessel is fully air-conditioned with forced fresh air vents for passenger comfort while traveling at sea.
The Spirit of 1770 offers quick access to Lady Musgrave Island, only 90 minutes by sea – leaving you 6 hours to explore the Outer Great Barrier Reef. The Spirit of 1770 departs from the Town of 1770 (the Birthplace of Queensland) and is the closest mainland point to Lady Musgrave Island.

Lady Musgrave National Park is a tropical paradise abundant in pisonia forests and bird life. The island is set on 3000 acres of living reef with a deep water coral lagoon which is unique to the entire Great Barrier Reef Region.
The Spirit of 1770 enters the calm waters of the coral lagoon to moor only 200 meters from the island. This provides a protected haven for all age groups to explore the wonders of a living reef eco-system and the colorful variety of marine life - all in one great day!

The clear blue water is filled with over 1200 varieties of brilliantly coloured marine fish and over 200 species of both hard and soft corals. The lagoon of Lady Musgrave Island is unique to the Great Barrier Reef. It is formed by a huge - 8 nautical miles circle of coral wall which protects the inner lagoon.
Our fast catamaran, the MV Spirit of 1770, enters the calm waters of the lagoon through a channel in the reef wall and moors in clear shallow waters only 200 metres from Lady Musgrave Island. In this protected haven people of all age groups can explore the wonders of a living reef ecosystem - all in one great day!

WHAT TO BRING
To ensure you have the best possible time on day trip there are few things to consider while packing you bag. Below are few suggestions to make you day a pleasant, comfortable and unforgettable:

Camera/Video camera: if you are considering snorkeling an underwater camera will help you capture the unique and
colourful marine life
Comfortable sand shoes
Jacket/Jumper
If you suffer from motion sickness you may wish to bring motion sickness tablets for the boat trip over and back

Although a National Park and World Heritage zone, people of all ages are permitted to experience a genuine 'back-to-nature' camping holiday experience on Lady Musgrave Island. You might want an island holiday with just a tent, some water and food to last you for the period you want to stay.....or you might want to bring or hire a little boat with oars or an engine, a surfboard or scuba gear - the choice is yours!
Lady Musgrave offers an affordable stay for anyone who would like to experience camping on a true coral cay. Lady Musgrave Island National Park is true un-spoilt wilderness offering the ultimate ‘castaway’ experience. Lady Musgrave Island and Lagoon is situated only 32 nautical miles from the Town of 1770. Lady Musgrave National Park is a tropical paradise abundant in pisonia forests and bird life. The island is set on 3000 acres of living reef with a deepwater coral lagoon which is unique to the entire Great Barrier Reef Region.
While you will experience total freedom and being one with nature, you also have to be totally self-sufficient, with fresh water being one of the most important necessities. Camping Permits - are required on each island. They are purchased in advance from the Environmental Protection Agency on 13 13 04 or on the internet www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks/iaparks/gds. Cost $4.50/person/night over the age of 4 years. There is a limit of 40 campers on the island. We recommend that you first find out if camping permits are available on the island during the period you would like to camp, then call us to see if there are seats available on the vessel. A tentative booking for seats can then be made while you book and pay for your permits.
Weather - please phone (07) 49749077 before commencing your journey to 1770. Adverse weather conditions may delay your transfer to the island or may leave you marooned on the island for a couple of days.
Camping is permitted on Lady Musgrave Island, but certain restrictions apply such as no open fires e.t.c
Camping is permitted most of the year, except for closed periods for regeneration, usually from January until Easter.
Even if you've never caught a fish in your life, you're bound to catch a fish or two on one of our fishing trips!
Not only does this part of the world enjoy beautiful warm weather most of the year, but the tropical waters are brimming with exotic sea life; and so recreational fishing is a major pastime in the area.
Our fishing vessel will take you to the outer reef wall and fringing reefs of Lady Musgrave Island lagoon which support a large variety of the freshest table fish you will ever taste; such as coral trout, mackerel and red emperor. On your fishing trip we provide all the fishing gear you need and we will even clean your catch so it is all ready for you to cook when you get home.
Our skipper is at home in the waters of the Bunker Group of islands, and he can take you to some of the most exciting fishing locations - some of which are regarded as "secret of the trade".
However, if you or your party wish to go to a certain reef within the marine park zone B, we certainly can arrange this. Our day fishing trips are non-schedule trips which we make available by demand.
If you prefer a shorter fishing adventure, part of our scheduled trips to Lady Musgrave Island also incorporate approximately one and a half hours of reef fishing along the outer wall of the island's lagoon.
