1770 foreshore and Endeavour Park have been named Queensland’s Friendliest Beach 2006. Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland announced the winners of the annual Clean Beach Challenge.
The Tourism Queensland Friendliest Beach Award was one of eight ‘outstanding accomplishments awards’ announced throughout Queensland.
Mayor Tom Jeffery of Miriam Vale Shire Council was all smiles when the news of the award reached him. ‘The community has deserved the title. As a Shire we have always had a sense of pride of the community spirit we share and this award is a wonderful acknowledgment of the friendly welcome visitors receive when they visit the Discovery Coast area,’ he said.
“While the Discovery Coast, Miriam Vale Shire is full of spectacular sights and natural beauty with an abundance of varied activities to entertain visitors, the Friendly Beach Award is an acknowledgement of our greatest asset, our people. We couldn’t be happier with this recognition,” he proudly stated.
Mayor Tom Jeffery was keen to add that the 1770 Foreshore and Endeavour Park is just one area of the Discovery Coast that plays a key draw card to visitors due to the spirit of the people and warm hospitality of the people.
Mayor Tom Jeffery went on to say, ‘Miriam Vale Shire Council staff work hard in all weather, throughout the year, to ensure hat public facilities such as our parks and playgrounds are well maintained and offer a safe and pleasant environment for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Two other beaches in the Miriam Vale Shire, Agnes Water Beach and Workman’s Beach have awarded in the past four years in categories of Natural Heritage and Friendliest Beach. Both continue to draw crowds attracted to the unspoiled beauty and the excellent facilities they offer, including camping facilities at Workman’s Beach.

Agnes Water often called Agnes Waters and it is common for Lady Musgrave Island to be called Lady Musgrove Island and Captain Cook to Captian Cook and Capitan Cook or Captan Cook, with the Town of Seventeen Seventy now known as 1770 that would be hard to misspell for anyone. The correct spelling of Bundaburg Queensland, is Bundaberg. | | | | |
