1770 FESTIVAL - 'SOUTHERN CROSS CINEMA' OUTDOOR FILM NIGHT
The 1770 Festival proudly presents the 'SOUTHERN CROSS CINEMA' outdoor film night on Thursday 24th May, under the stars, by the lagoon at Southern Cross Tourist Retreat (2694 Round Hill Road, Agnes Water).
Several films will screen on the night, including feature film "Rats & Cats", Tropfest award winning short films as well local short films. Special guest MC on the night will be actor/scriptwriter Jason Gann, star of "Rats & Cats" and several TV shows including Channel 10's "The Wedge" and SBS TV's "Wilfred".
Gates open at 5pm, and the Official Opening and Films will start at 6pm. Tickets are $10 and are on sale now from The Coastal Rag office in Agnes Water & at the gate on the night.
From the producers of the movie "One Perfect Day" - "RATS & CATS" screens as an exclusive in the region as to date the film has only been previewed by audiences at the Melbourne International Film Festival ahead of a national release later this year.
The movie is a comedy-drama about an ex-TV star who drops out to a small country town and is pursued by a journalist wanting to know the truth behind the story.
Playing like a mix of 'Almost Famous' and 'Velvet Goldmine', this film uses elements of mockumentary in a fictional narrative. An early review of the film says "there is some hilarious dialogue and the script is a good deal stronger than that of so, so many films to have much more money thrown at them in Australia than must have been the case here. Performances from its two leads are note-perfect."
Special guest JASON GANN is a regular visitor to the region having relatives in the area. Several of the Tropfest short films to screen on the night showcase some of Jason's earlier work where he won 'Best Male Actor' in 2 successive years, 'Best Comedy' & 'People's Choice Award' for the short "Wilfred" and 'Best Film' for "Buried".
The "Wilfred" short film went on to be screened at Robert Redford's Sundance film festival in Utah, and SBS has made it into a TV series which is currently screening on Monday nights at 10pm.
He is also a writer and actor on Channel 10's comedy show "The Wedge", playing a number of characters including Mark Warey - the sportsman who constantly holds press conferences to apologise for his latest drunken deeds.
Jason Gann will also be hosting a FREE FILM & TV WORKSHOP separately to the film night - registration is essential, call (07) 4974 7862.
SOUTHERN CROSS CINEMA will also screen shorts that have been created by local talent.
Clovely Estate Wines will have wine tasting, sampling the finest of the Burnett regions wines. Gourmet entrée's and main meals will be on sale from eco-friendly caterers. 1770 Festival events support environmentally friendly practices.
